In exchange for a plea bargain with the FBI, Belfort served 22 months of a four-year sentence at Taft Correctional Institution in Taft, California, for running pump-and-dump scams that resulted in investor losses of roughly $200 million. He was ordered to return $110.4 million to the investors who he defrauded through fraudulent stock sales.

After serving more than 14 years in prison, Belfort wrote his memoir The Wolf of Wall Street. Following the publication of his debut work, he released Catching the Wolf of Wall Street, which chronicled his life after imprisonment.

Belfort that turned his hand to motivational speaking. He’s taken part in live events in Australia called “The Truth Behind His Success,” as well as other public engagements.
