Now, at the age of 19, she is part of LSU’s LSU Lady Tigers track and field team as one of the best sprinters in the nation. As a teenager, she won the 100 m title at the AAU Junior Olympics — the largest national multi-sport event for youth in the United States — in 2016, then another title at the USATF Junior Olympics in 2017. She has also represented the US at the 2017 Pan American U20 Athletics Championships, where she won a gold medal in the 4 × 100-meter relay along with Gabriele Cunningham, Rebekah Smith, and Tara Davis.

Richardson qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics by finishing second in the 100-meter race at the 2020 United States Olympic Trials with a time of 10.86 seconds. She then tested positive for THC metabolites, but the USADA declined to take action. On June 30, 2021, however, she was suspended for one month because of her positive test, effectively ending her chances of competing at the Summer Olympics. Richardson said she took the drug to cope with the pressure of qualifying for the Olympics while mourning the recent loss of her mother.

Richardson was on hand at the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar, as Jamaica were crowned champions. She placed ninth with a time of 11.16 seconds. Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson repeated their places.
