After a successful audition, he began his professional career. He went to UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television to study acting. In a school play of Golden Boy, he had his first non-cinematic acting experience.. He said he started acting because he “wanted to be James Dean. I saw him in Rebel Without a Cause, East of Eden. Nothing affected me—no rock song, no classical music—the way Dean affected me in Eden. It blew my mind. I was like, ‘That’s what I want to do’.”

At the age of fifteen, he attempted to persuade his uncle, Francis Ford Coppola, to allow him a screen test by stating, “I’ll show you acting.” His fury was met with silence in the vehicle. By this time in his career, Coppola had already worked with Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Gene Hack

In 2012, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance became his most lucrative box office hit, with $585 million in gross revenue.

His next picture, Joe, was a box office failure. He acted in Elijah Wood-produced Mandy, an action thriller with plenty of positive attention, in 2018. Nicolas Cage Quotes

My father once said, 'If you're in the desert and you're dying of thirst, are you going to drink a glass of blood or are you going to drink a glass of water?' I think what he was trying to say, interesting coming from my blood father, is sometimes there are people in your family that can be toxic.

I'm always curious about what happens when we die. And I'd like to think that somehow the spirit goes on. I'd rather not think that it's just about this.

I think it's no secret that I've tried to take chances in my career and also in my life, and I believe to not live in fear.
