Following in the footsteps of his older brother Donnie Wahlberg, who was a member of boy band New Kids on the Block, Mark Wahlberg began his musical career as “Marky Mark.” At the age of 13, Mark Wahlberg initially joined the group; however, he subsequently dropped out.

Following Mark Wahlberg’s release from prison, his brother Donnie assisted him in reentering the music industry by producing his debut album. “Good Vibrations,” a 1991 hit single off Marky Mark’s album Music for the People, was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and went platinum later.

His second album met with less success, but it helped him develop a fan base and a reputation for removing his pants in public. In 1992, Wahlberg was hired by Calvin Klein as a model for clothing, and his image was constantly seen on a Times Square billboard throughout the year.

In the following year, he began his professional acting career by playing a part in The Substitute, a television picture. He retired his Marky Mark name to signal an intention to move from music to acting.

In 1994, Wahlberg made his cinematic debut in Renaissance Man. His breakout appearance, though, came in 1995’s The Basketball Diaries, in which he starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. He got his first starring role the next year with Fear.

In the 2000s Wahlberg made the jump into bigger budget action films like “The Perfect Storm” (2000), “Planet of the Apes” (2001), and “The Italian Job” (2003).

He received an Academy Award, Golden Globe and National Society of Film Critics Best Supporting Actor award for his role in Martin Scorsese’s crime drama “The Departed” (2006).

Mark Wahlberg has also appeared in a number of prestigious films, such as “The Happening” (2008), “The Lovely Bones” (2009), the hit comedies “Ted” (2012) and “Ted 2” (2015), the action-packed thrillers “Lone Survivor” (2013) and “Transformers: Age of Extinction” (2014), and the drama “Deepwater Horizon” (2016).

Wahlberg, like many other celebrities, is also a successful producer. He has produced several of his movies. He acted as executive producer of HBO series “Entourage” (2004-2011), a show loosely based on his own experiences in Hollywood. He is also the executive producer of the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire,” “Ballers” and “How to Make It in America.” As an executive producer of Entourage he earned $3 million per year.

He may command $10 million as an actor, but he often accepts smaller salaries in exchange for a share of the backend gross.

In 2017, Wahlberg enraged fans when he was paid a million dollars to complete reshoots for the film “All the Money in the World,” despite receiving far less compensation than his female co-star Michelle Williams.

He will next be seen in the upcoming Uncharted film based on the popular video game of the same title.
