Radric Delantic Davis was born on February 12, 1980, in Bessemer, Alabama. His father was fleeing the authorities when he was born, having dealt crack and heroin in Detroit, Michigan. He grew up with his paternal grandmother while his mother went to college.

At the age of six, Mane was introduced to rap and hip-hop by his half-brother Victor, who took him to a Run-DMC, Beastie Boys, and LL Cool J performance. Mane and his mother moved to Atlanta in 1989. While in junior high, Mane began dealing drugs. He used his Christmas money in eighth grade to buy crack cocaine to sell to others.
